Named Patches
The Named Flag Patches
Our embroidered Named Flag Patches are almost the same size as our Standard Flag Patches, with this exception: the country patches are 2¼x3¼", the State patches are 2¾x3½", larger to show more detail. Like our Standard Flag Patches these patches work well for those bold applications such as shoulders and breast pockets of shirts and jackets. They're also handy if you want to be sure that people know what flag you're sporting. Note that sometimes the name of the country is at the top of the patch and sometimes it's at the bottom. The color of the stitching of the name and its background may also be different; sometimes dark on light, sometimes light on dark. This may vary even from the images shown. That said, they're still very popular patches and their variability can give a charming randomness to their display.
The patches themselves are finished with a non-raveling, "merrowed" edge, usually in gold-colored thread. (Note: "merrowing" is also know as "overedging", "overlocking", or "serging".) Although they can be ironed on, we always recommend at least "tacking" down the corners for applications expected to be subjected to somewhat rougher environments to prevent curling.
