Shield Patches
Our embroidered Shield Flag Patches come in two slightly different sizes: the country patches are 3x2½"; the State patches are 3½x3", larger to show more detail. Like our Standard Flag Patches, these patches work well for those bold applications such as shoulders and breast pockets of shirts and jackets. They're also handy if you want to be sure that people know what flag you're sporting. Note that the color of the stitching of the name of the country (or State) and its background may be different; sometimes dark on light, sometimes light on dark. This may vary even from the images shown. That said, they're still very popular patches and their slight variability can give a charming randomness to their display.
The patches themselves are finished with a non-raveling, "merrowed" edge, usually in gold-colored thread. (Note: "merrowing" is also know as "overedging", "overlocking", or "serging".) Although they can be ironed on, we always recommend at least "tacking" down the top corners and "point" for applications expected to be subjected to somewhat rougher environments to prevent curling.
